IFES is mourning a dedicated and longstanding member : she was sheer joy of life, the true animator of the French federation FFME : we all deeply regret our dear friend and colleague Christiane Moillard, who suddenly passed away on Friday December 14th. IFES shares this cruel loss with Jacques, her husband, with her mother and her family, and all our French colleagues. We'll miss her…

THE POWER OF HAVING BEEN THERE.
From November 28 till November 30, the first Joint IFES/EDPA Convention was held in Miami with a resounding success: nearly 300 exhibition industry leaders attended the convention, in what turned out to be a huge celebration of face to face communication.

On Wednesday November 21st, the German exhibition services community meets in Berlin for the yearly FAMAB Congress, under the theme : "What's the role of exhibitions and exhibition participation in the way to the top"; all the congress topics deal with exhibitions and corporate communication. The Congress will be accompanied by a trade exhibition on live marketing, product  scenography  and 3-dimensional communication. The 1st Adam Award will be given to 20 companies out of 122 entries in 6 different categories; they all gave original answers to the basic question : What's the difference between an exhibition stand and a marketing scenography during an exhibition. The Joint IFES/EDPA Convention adds another interesting speaker to its program : Rajiv Kapur, President of Configurations, a Florida based exhibit and marketing firm. He will present an interactive session and workshop to look into innovative ways of using collaborations and strategic partnerships to survive in difficult times; these partnerships will prove a foundation for prosperity in good times. The French federation, FFME, will participate in a newly created exhibition HEAVENT, on November 20-22, 2001, organised on the Longchamp horse track in Paris. It is an exhibition focused on the exhibition and event service providers.

On November 5th, EXPOBEL, the Belgian federation, organises an Expo Café during the Media Planet exhibition; Media Planet is a consumer show on new media, known for his modern exhibition concept and marketing. The exhibition organiser will present his exhibition concept and the way he views the future of consumer shows. The presentation will be followed by a debate on the future of consumer shows. Participants in the debate include Emile de Cartier (Expobel President), Johan Van Cauwenberghe (Febelux secretary general), Johan De Deygere (Jaarbeurs Vlaanderen) and Bob De Paepe (Union of Belgian Advertisers).

THE 68th UFI CONGRESS, October 19-20th, 2001, Cologne

Bruno Meissner, Communication Group President and Jan De Ceuster, Secretary General, attended the 68th UFI Congress, which, in the very last instance, was rescheduled from Cairo to Cologne.

DEUTSCHES MESSEFORUM, BONN, MAY 10TH

Under the title, Trade Fairs - Experiencing Success, AUMA for
the first time explicitly opened its forum to foreign colleagues,
providing English translation. And it immediately experienced
success with 400 participants, gathering in the impressive
former German Parliament......

GENERAL MEETING UFI EUROPEAN CHAPTER,
BUDAPEST, APRIL 6, 2001

IFES became an UFI Associated Member in November 2000 and
participated for the first time in an UFI General Meeting. Several
important topics facing the exhibition industry were treated by
imminent speakers, such as 'New Media and Trade Shows' and
