UFI invited IFES to participate in the UFI meeting and present the IFES point of view to the subject of the meeting “New Trends in Design and Facilities for Exhibition Centres”. IFES President Select Jose Maria Perez de Olocaechea presented the IFES perspective.

I.M.Austria, association of the fair- and event industry Austria, was represented with an information- and meeting point at the Publica04, hall D, March 31 to April 4, 2004. I.M.Austria informed at its exhibition booth about the 16 member companies, the philosophy of the federation, benefits for customers and also presents, for the first time, an electronic library for the fair service industry. Many guests form Eastern European associations and companies were present: Emil Feher, President of the Hungarian association, Jiri Carda, President of the Czech association AVF and Marek Baluska from Slovak Republic, Exhibition centre Nitra.

During the Publica the celebration of the IMA-Award took place. This year the IMA-Award of I.M.Austria was presented to a personality of the economy for extraordinary achievements in the fair-, event- and congress business in Austria. Winner of the Award 2003 is Dr. Michael Auracher, Executive Director of the Austria Center Vienna. The Award was presented by Leslie P.C. Zech, president of I.M.Austria. IFES President Holger Nicolaysen congratulated as well and invited all participants to this year’s IFES Convention in Vilnius, Lithunia from June, 24-26.

This year’s IFES Convention will be held in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania form June, 24-26, 2004. “Let’s go East and West – new opportunities in the global market” – this will be the motto of the convention.

The first IFES Board Meeting of 2004 was held in London on February 27, 2004.

IFES has had as well the excellent opportunity of meeting representatives of the British association BECA during the stay in London. A meeting was held to discuss a co-operation between BECA and IFES and to exchange experiences to relevant subjects of the branch. IFES looks forward to welcome BECA as new member very soon.

The main focus of the Board meeting was laid upon the organisation of the IFES Convention in Lithuania, 24-26 June, 2004 (see Link Convention), the attraction of new members for IFES to extend the network, the further co-operation with UFI and the participation of IFES within the next UFI meeting in Vienna on April, 29 to the subject “New Trends in Design and Facilities for Exhibition Centres” and the IFES participation within the EuroShop next year 2005 in Düsseldorf.
