The sustainable Committee wants to reach ambitious goals
Sustainability reaches far beyond its traditional borders of protecting the Earth. Sustainability is an official goal and engagement of the international community – signed up on COP 21, going with strong policies on our main business places.
In Europe, for instance, the EU non-financial reporting obligation is effective since the begin of 2017.
The Sustainability Committee is commited to maintain positive strengths and develop a constructive program for our members.
We had great stories…
Let’s share more ones throughout the year!
We have our IFES Label that we use in our internal and external communication around sustainability. We aim to share amazing projects, clever solutions, best practices with our members and partners.
A few highlights of the sustainable program
Better than yesterday, less than tomorrow…
The IFES congress, our yearly main event, will become, for at least the coming three years, a living showcase of implementing sustainability and CO2 reporting in the event industry.
Our goal: Involve and train our members to Impact measuring and CO2 tracking
By using ECOLOGES we will focus on accurate and meaningful figures and arguments, making understand that sustainability is much more than a concept!
A shared commitment
To involve every conventioneer into the “Green Revolution” of La grande Motte, we asked every participant to sign the Charte of IFES Sustainability Commitment, accepting the following items:
- Encourage local integration
- Promote best practices and inform about it, in order to provide a legacy to the event industry
- Limit the environmental impact of the congress
Green Events brought its expertise in this project, explaining the global certification ISO 20121, the audience representing our industry was solicited to bring its experience and opinion.
Sustainability as a driver
France is candidate for the 2025 World Exposition and sustainability will be one of the main items! We invite you to discover the project and to get some insights about the main challenges for the involved teams and partners.
Our annual Meeting at the World Summit 2018 in Chicago
The IFES congress in Chicago opened Wednesday June 27th with the Sustainable Starter. 6 axes have been developed to illustrate our environmental approach within our exhibition industry: Inspire, share, have fun, learn, transmit, improve. The first presentation was given by Jan Zak in which he shared the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals to Transform Our World. In 2015, countries adopted these 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Next were two FIT graduate students, Nina Van Styrum and Alexandria Ruper, who presented their projects focused on sustainable development. Succession is assured in terms of creativity, no doubt, but what is really new is that the environment is at the center of the project. Finally, Tom Bowman presented his career path in sustainability and predictions for the future.
IFES measured the environmental impact on the Montpellier congress, and is currently working to measure the environmental impact of our congress in Chicago. The 2019 congress in Athens will be measured in the same way. Measuring environmental impact is an important step by the responsible actors of this industry.
On Thursday morning, a group exercise and networking walk/run was organized on the shores of Lake Michigan, one of the most beautiful American spaces. Everyone wore their blue IFES football jerseys and enjoyed a beautiful June morning. Finally, we presented the best pitch awards during the gala evening on good practices in sustainable development. A very festive moment where the participants are applauded and received gifts bags made from recycled signage of the previous congress. This year in Chicago was unforgettable, These are moments that we would like to share with everyone in Athens in June 2019.
