What a productive time we had at BOE International 2024, the leading trade fair for experience marketing, in Dortmund from January 17-18, 2024.

Every year, BOE International offers a source of information and inspiration for modern live communication. This year, alongside innovations, highlights, and tried-and-tested products from event technology and services, we saw a strong focus on ecological and economic transformation, including the latest solutions available to the industry. One of the ideas was to demonstrate that stands can remain aesthetically appealing whilst conforming to environmentally-friendly protocols.

IFES exhibited at Booth A026 alongside the first iteration of BOE’s “Sustainable Stand–Best Practice Area.” As part of the Sustainability Experience, this space prepared visitors for an inspiring journey into the future of sustainability. It also provided a productive platform from which to drive the IFES sustainability agenda, with our own booth nearby as an example of sustainable material use and the IFES team on hand to explain the ISO 202121 Training Convoy initiative. The colourful backdrop for the Sustainable Stand-Best Practice Area was created from reused graphics and fabrics, which were given a new purpose at BOE. IFES also benefited from being located near the fwd: stand, which helped foster the relationship between the two associations and reconnected us with existing and prospective German members.

As a network which embraces a uniquely sustainable way of “working local, globally”, we believe that our trust-based network offers the ultimate solution for exhibiting globally with reduced environmental impact, and we are increasingly tailoring our sustainability approach to each event in our journey towards achieving our shared goal of Net Zero Carbon Events.

With the assistance of some of our sustainability conscious IFES member sponsors, we made use of recycled/recyclable materials for our BOE presence. Octanorm provided us with the “second use” aluminium frames on the IFES and Sustainability Best Practice Booths. Moss’s recycled and reusable fabric walls (from recycled ocean plastic waste) contributed to an environmentally friendly aesthetic. Montecolino’s recycled carpeting, flat pack furniture (created out of used carpeting), and a sustainably constructed counter for the IFES booth provided by The Inside StandBouw completed the picture. These materials will all be reused after the event, and we will calculate our carbon footprint and offset it accordingly.
From a collaborative standpoint, we greatly appreciate the assistance from Holtmann+ with the execution and the BOE itself, which sponsored the stand space for us.

A personal highlight was how sustainably BOE achieved the catering element. In collaboration with PappStar for silverware, plates, cups, etc., Lemonpie Eventcatering managed a complete cradle-to-cradle catering approach. Definitely, an example of best practice for the future.
