Next Generation Leaders take a seat at the table at IMEX Frankfurt
Representatives from IFES recently joined forces with AIPC, AMC Institute and IAPCO to participate in “How to Get a Seat at the Table”, a next-generation Workshop held at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel and Conference Centre during IMEX Frankfurt on May 13th, 2024. The event was hosted by IAPCO and supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Its purpose was to bring industry professionals together to share ideas and plan for the future.
(L to R): Ali Toorani (AIPC), Martin Boyle (IAPCO), Uta Goretzky (IFES), Helen Chan (HKTB), Tina Wehmeir (AMCI), Sven Bossu (AIPC), Ellen Franck (Meetagain Konferens AB), Emma Bennett (AMCI)
The workshop attracted a diverse group of project managers from the four associations, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore leadership and management in the events and exhibitions space. During the half-day session of intensive knowledge sharing between seasoned veterans and upcoming next generation players participants engaged in discussions about the challenges faced in early career stages by industry professionals Samantha Glass, Lane Velayo, CAE, Nicola McGrane and Jorg Zeissig, the importance of mentorship, and the intricacies of effective succession planning.
One key discussion focused on the qualities that emerging leaders need to succeed in today’s changing landscape. Led by Stephen Noble, Chair of the IAPCO Training Academy, and Giulia Ineke Sarri, Chair of the IAPCO Next Gen Committee, the session titled “Defining the Next Generation” provided invaluable insights into navigating generational dynamics and fostering innovation.
Additionally, the Next Gen Hackathon session encouraged collaborative problem-solving as attendees brainstormed actionable solutions inspired by the wisdom shared by senior professionals. The workshop concluded with a panel discussion in which Next Gen leaders shared their diverse opinions on the future of the industry.
Giulia Sarri, Next Gen representative of the IAPCO Council and Chair of the IAPCO Next Gen Committee, emphasised the workshop’s significance in empowering young professionals to shape the industry’s trajectory and secure influential roles within it. Ellen Franck, a panelist and IAPCO Council Member, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of cultivating inclusive environments that facilitate knowledge exchange between generations.
Initiatives like the Joint Association Partners Next Gen workshop demonstrate IFES and its collaborators’ commitment to nurturing talent and driving professional development within the events and exhibitions sector. These endeavours pave the way for a brighter and more innovative landscape within the industry as we look towards the future.
