
Dear fellow IFES Colleagues,
Digital transformation continues to redefine how events and exhibitions are conceived, delivered, and experienced. Within IFES, embracing digital innovation is not just an abstract ambition – it is rather a strategic imperative to ensure relevance, efficiency, and measurable value for all stakeholders in the global exhibitions ecosystem. And yet, we have homework to do.
Digital technologies are reshaping every aspect of our industry: data-driven insights for audience engagement, automation in project management, virtual and hybrid event formats and AI-supported design and logistics, as well as process management influences. These developments change the way we work and might even have an influence on the value chain beyond the physical show floor that we need to be able to handle. IFES encourages its members to support exploring these technologies and to share the knowledge with the community, not as isolated tools, but as enablers of long-term competitiveness.
Focusing on Relevant and Meaningful Tools
The goal is not digitalization for its own sake, but the selective adoption of existing tools that deliver measurable outcomes. This includes platforms that improve collaboration between partners, systems that enhance transparency and traceability, and solutions that simplify the customer journey. Every digital investment should align with the operational realities of our members and contribute directly to business performance.
Customer Centricity and Unique Value
As digital innovation accelerates, customer centricity and customer experience remain the defining principles. Understanding what truly differentiates our services – we call them Unique Buying Reasons -must guide every technological decision. Tools and platforms should deepen relationships, personalise experiences, and communicate the distinctive value of face-to-face engagement in an increasingly digital world.
The path forward for IFES and its members is still to be elaborated. We would like to invite you to support a digital committee within IFES to apply digital innovation purposefully, align it with customer needs, and use it to reinforce the trust, creativity, and excellence that define our industry.
