Barbara Weizsäcker, Secretary General at EMECA, European Major Industry Alliance

ADVOCACY FOR OUR INDUSTRY – Mon 20th November.

Barbara Weizsäcker will provide an overview of the exhibition industry’s representation in Brussels to the European institutions. She will give an insight into what it means to represent our sector to policy makers. She will share her experience on how advocacy works, how to build alliances, which pressing policy issues impact our sector and how they are being addressed.

 

BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Weizsäcker joined EMECA, the European Major Exhibition Centres Association, in 2012 as Secretary General and also acts as Secretary General for the European Exhibition Industry Alliance, EEIA, in Brussels (Belgium). She is also Board Member (Treasurer) of the Joint Meeting Industry Council (JMIC), a global umbrella organisation for the business events industry.

Before, she held the position of Public Affairs Director at Messe Frankfurt (Germany), always focussed on EU level. Among other responsibilities, she ran several EU-funded projects, developed the comprehensive IPR prevention and enforcement service “Messe Frankfurt against Copying” and was responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility in Frankfurt and globally.

Barbara Weizsäcker has long years of experience with exhibitions and politics, having worked for the German Publishers and Booksellers Association – organiser of the Frankfurt Book Fair – and for the European Booksellers Federation in Brussels in the beginning of her career.

Barbara Weizsäcker studied English, French and Spanish Literature and Linguistics and read History in Freiburg (Germany) and Madrid (Spain). She specialised in EU Studies in Paris (France).
