Holtmann+ (Laureen Pahl)

– What is your motivation to participate in the pursuit of ISO 20121?
For Holtmann+, ISO 20121 is a tool for the structured and strategic further development of sustainability management. It allows sustainability to be anchored deeply in our company – this is our motivation. Sustainability should not be an add-on, it belongs to Holtmann+ and is an essential part of our actions.

– What point are you at now, where will you be in mid-June, and when do you plan to be finished?
We have just received our feedback report and our carbon footprint. This means we now know where we are at regarding sustainability and where our gaps are. Now process phase 2 begins, in which we develop or adapt ISO-compliant strategies for implementing sustainability in various areas. We also develop sustainability goals and the measures that go with them.

– What do you think about the principle of our convoy pursuit of ISO 20121? What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages?
The convoy allows us to exchange with other companies from the same process phase. This facilitates the development of strategies and we can share knowledge and ideas with each other. Especially for companies that have no sustainability manager or only one, this exchange is essential.  The only disadvantage of the convoy is that the process drags on a bit, as the next step is only taken when all companies are ready.

– What are your challenges implementing ISO 20121?
The ISO is really very complex. We had to dive deep into our data to determine the status quo. It was not always easy to get the necessary data, as we had not collected it before, or only partially.

– Would you recommend the convoy pursuit of ISO 20121 to others?

Yes!

“We want to anchor sustainability holistically, long-term and credibly at Holtmann+. We achieve this with the help of ISO 20121.”

– What is your motivation to participate in the pursuit of ISO 20121?

On the one hand a desire to make a positive difference in a not-yet sustainable industry. And on the other hand a pure management perspective that we need to do this to remain well set up with a business that complies with near and mid-future expectations and requirements of our clients and the overall legal framework.

– What point are you at now, where will you be in mid-June, and when do you plan to be finished?

We have completed our carbon emission evaluation and the thorough analysis of our status quo. By mid June we will have just entered into the next phase of implementing first new management processes. We expect to be finished with the audit by late 2023 or early 2024.

– What do you think about the principle of our convoy pursuit of ISO 20121? What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages?

The convoy meetings create a certain momentum of togetherness, which we find helpful and enjoy.

– What are your challenges implementing ISO 20121?

It is complex and requires a thorough commitment of the organization as a whole. But to us this is actually one of the reasons we are doing this.

– Would you recommend the convoy pursuit of ISO 20121 to others?

Yes to everyone who has a sincere interest in transforming their business into a more economically, ecologically and socially sustainable operation.

– Quote:

„Triggered by our desire to make a positive difference in a not-yet sustainable industry as well as UFI President Kai Hattendorf’s urging words that acting sustainably will be our future license to operate, we decided to enter into the ISO 20121 certification process. It is challenging as it requires some monetary and timely resources. But despite of that I love how I already early in the process realize how this enables us to grow so much stronger as an organization on so many levels. It feels like exactly the right thing to do right now.“
