Junk Talks to Me
Since a young age I was fascinated by all the wonderful strange things in my father’s hardware store, stuff laying around in the streets and in scrap yards, which became my playgrounds. These became my Lego blocks to play with and make whatever my imagination wouldallow. This has carried on into my adult life and my work is strongly influenced by it. I have been ”playing” and having fun all my working life.
my presentation
With global warming having reached critical proportions, My belief is that reducing the carbon footprint needs urgent attention and our industry can go a long way in helping in this regard. The more something is reused, by upscaling or whatever other cleverway, less carbon will be produced. This is something that we at Design and Display make every effort to do.
The one difficulty that I am confronted with is to convince clients of our approach. I am sometimes contacted by clients after having seen my stands. I often present my talk ”Junk Talks to Me” at exhibitor briefings and have acquired many clients after they have attended and seen my work.

Sustainability versus Greening (Waste Management)
My Presentation
We are seen as ‘Disruptors’ in our industry – and we do things a little differently.
We do Sustainability – not “greening”. “Greening” is defined as products and services that reduce health and impact to the environment. Sustainability on the other hand, is seen being 3 faceted – environmentally, socially and financially responsible.
We work extensively with a product that can be called paperwood – EFB (engineered fibre board). The board is made from recycled pulp and manufactured by a company called Xanita in South Africa and is 100% recyclable. We have found however there are many other added benefits to using this product, which we will illustrate with case studies.
Over the years we have developed the product to be used in the exhibition, retail and event industries and have received many awards in recognition for our work.
