ABOUT THE PROJECT
IFES made a concerted effort to incorporate a sustainable approach into every aspect of their 2023 World Summit in Singapore.
The host location is a recognised leader in sustainable initiatives and was an ideal location in which to take this annual event to the next level. In addition to choosing an ISO 14001 certified hotel in Singapore, IFES made use of onsite meeting rooms to tremendously reduce the amount of transportation required during the conference.
With multiple sessions, presentations, and panels, much of the program unpacked sustainability approaches in Singapore and South-East Asia raising awareness around what can and has been done, including the new ISO Training Program driven by IFES and fwd, the IFES involvement in NZCE and active involvement in Ufi’s Sustainable Development Working Group.
IFES also emphasised a healthy lifestyle, organising a guided morning run around the Marina Bay area, a Tai Chi break, and a very active tourist program at the end of the World Summit. Those staying on for Saturday’s Green Singapore Tourist Program got to explore nature along the Northern Shores (Punggol-Coney-Pasir Ris), bike through the coastal forests or go plogging (plastic fishing and collecting sea plastic) along the coast of Coney Island and the waterways of Punggol.
THE RESULT
Our IFES family returned home with a deeper awareness around what can be done to improve live events and galvanized by the imperative of bringing Sustainability into all exhibition and event – related business activities. This was a first initiative towards increasingly sustainable IFES events, a move which we hope will encourage our members to follow suit.
