ABOUT THE PROJECT
Moss introduced an exclusive fabric to the global exhibition and retail market; SustainaTex Ocean. The most sustainable fabric available with the lowest carbon footprint, SustainaTex Ocean is produced entirely from upcycled plastic (including marine plastic) and recycled polyester, creating a graphic with 100% recycled content. Moss also signed a license agreement with the SEAQUAL initiative, a community that works with ocean clean-up programs to transform recovered marine plastic into SEAQUAL yarn.
To truly ensure this fabric is the most sustainable available we also eliminated all PVC from our gaskets and now only offer a non-PVC gasket for all Moss SEG fabrics at no additional cost to the customer. Additionally, we ship all of our SEG fabrics in bags made of 100% recyclable material.
A product is sustainable only if it is produced in a sustainable facility. Our US production headquarters in Chicago uses only renewable energy, has motion-controlled LED lighting, water conservation fixtures and separated recyclables that are converted to energy through the EPA landfill methane outreach program. Furthermore, to reduce our carbon footprint, Moss provides free charging via 10 car chargers at our facility and a stipend of $1000 to all staff who trade their vehicle for an EV. We have happily already paid this to six Moss team members. Our European production headquarters in Lennestadt, Germany utilizes a solar photovoltaic array to provide some of its electricity and purchases renewable energy for the rest.
In addition to the steps mentioned above to reduce its carbon footprint, to make further progress on its net zero commitments, we worked with ClimatePartner, an accredited carbon consulting company to quantify the scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from its production operations in both the US and Europe. Those emissions were then offset using verified carbon offset programs in the US and Europe.
THE RESULT
The reaction from clients and the industry has been outstanding. Moss’s sustainable fabric is being used in everything from national retail rollouts to individual exhibition booths for eco-conscious exhibitors. SustainaTex Ocean also won the 2022 SEGD Global Design Award for best product and the 2023 IDIA Award from IFES for innovation. We also were awarded EcoVadis Silver status for our ESG efforts, landing us in the top 25% globally.
