ABOUT THE PROJECT
In 2023 we created an operational process and an external partnership to help divert the fabric waste created during our normal production activities. The challenge is there are few good upcycling options for the wide variety of fabrics we use in production, including the blackback opaque that is so common in the industry.
Therefore, we partnered with a company who could take our scrap fabric and use heat and pressure to form it into soft cylinders that are used as the interior of a punching bag!
The process costs more for Moss – we invested in our own “baler” machine to minimize the size of scrap fabrics sent to our partner. But we’re proud we have a good use for our scrap fabric while we continue to research other full recycling options.
THE RESULT
This innovative initiative is expected, in one year, to divert fabric from either incineration or landill equal to the weight of a blue whale!
